Hospitality tabletop company The Homer Laughlin China Company was featured yesterday in Forbes magazine’s online edition. The article talked about the company’s strong family ownership and management, along with its America heritage and pride.

In the article, Matt Wicks, HLC’s Northwestern Regional Sales Manager, and a fifth-generation member of the family of W.E. Wells, the company’s second owner, talked about the company’s approach to quality and design.

“We may be more expensive, but our products are top quality,” Wicks is quoted as saying. “We do a lot to stay on top of consumer trends, and we have a great art and design department.”

Katie Bricker, HLC’s Food Service and General Marketing Manager, great-great-granddaughter of W.E. Wells, and daughter of current President and CEO Elizabeth McIlvain was also featured in the Forbes story.

“We’re really proud of our U.S. workers,” Bricker said. “We have robotics now for some repetitive tasks – we have automated forming and kilns – but we still have lots of handcrafting for decorating, in things like our lines and decals.”
