Let’s be honest with each other for a moment, we’ve all been to a restaurant and been given silverware that probably could have used a second run through the washer. It happens and in a fast paced industry like hospitality, its the details that are often easily overlooked.

And its attention to that specific detail that lands Curvwave on our #TabletopRadar.

Curvware claims to be to flatware what the lever handle was to the door knob, in fact a look at their utensils reveals they all come equipped with a lever-like appendage. The idea here is that whenever you hold a fork or knife, or as they call them “Flamingo Utensils,” there’s a certain level of squeezing involved to hold the utensils that is eliminated.

Moments like cutting into proteins put extra strain on the hand and the appendages on the flamingo utensils aim to ease that strain. As they put it, “Curvware fits inside the hand the way fine Italian driving gloves fit over the hand.”

However that’s not all the flamingo utensils from Curvware do.

One of the bolder claims is that they can save you approximately 1000 gallons of water a day! That’s because all Curvware comes with epoxy coated racks that fit comfortably in a standard dishwasher tray. Each rack holds 30 sets of Curvware at a time and the racks can be stacked or placed side by side during wash cycles.

Hanging vertically, Curvware takes advantage of the vertical spray which would in theory clean them in one pass, compared to multiple passes it would normally take to clean flatware. The functionality of the racks also get rid of the need for bins and storage trays and are loaded by bussers and washed without ever being touched by kitchen staff. After drying they can be taken directly to a wait station.

It’s these “little” details about Curvware that add up to something much bigger. The company has been around for over 20 years now, however a new press release suggests that Curvware is now easier than ever to get your hands on. With a new, younger generation of chefs, guests, and restaurateurs finding their way into the industry, the practically and sustainability of their products is something that’s definitely landing them back on our radar.

Forget flatware….think Curvware.
