Santo Alessi. Australian dinnerware. Handmade.

When you tout yourself as the second oldest pottery business in the country that can be both a source of pride and red flag. We constantly bump into tableware companies across the globe with interesting stories to tell, but often are stuck in the last century in terms of design and marketing. However, that’s not quite the case for Australia’s Santo Alessi.

Formerly known as Elischer Pottery, Santo Alessi was founded in 1947 by John Elischer and his son. The ethos of the company revolves around an effort to innovate and create contemporary works of art with flair, passion, and creativity. It’s that culture of artistic ambition that has allowed Santo Alessi to reinvent, grow, and thrive for the last 69 years. More recently it’s landed their entire range on MasterChef Australia.

Santo Alessi offers up 20+ products including plates for dinner, entrées, tapas, and sushi. You can expect the usual ramekins and sauce containers on the side as well as some pretty cool taco holders. The Australian based company’s pride themselves on their handmade aesthetic. They go as far as to even put a disclaimer up on their website for unwitting operators.

“Irregularities and variation in the glaze color, texture, size and finish are inherent and should be expected due to the handcrafted design of our pieces. We believe that these characteristics only add to the natural beauty and unique quality of our products and are in no way to be considered flaws, that’s our belief, anyway.”
