As international, diverse and inspiring as the global bar scene itself is this year’s speaker line-up of the first purely digital BCB Pouring Digital. Via video recording of the individual education sessions, the top-class lecture program can be accessed online from October 12 to 18, 2020 as part of Global Bar Week – literally 24/7.

The lectures will be rich in content and have a practical focus on crisis-relevant topics, offering valuable orientation and concrete assistance to the industry, which has been shaken by pandemic conditions. For this, the Education Director of Bar Convent Berlin, Angus Winchester, has not only recruited real industry heavyweights such as Ian BurrellSean FinterJackie Summers and Yangdup Lama. Also exciting newcomers, such as Savva Panayiotis or Mariah Kunkel, and successful bar operators from all over the world, such as Masahiro Urushido and Artem Peruk, share their valuable experiences online with the participants of BCB Pouring Digital.

“With our digital lecture program, we want to help the industry get back on its feet in these difficult times. To do this, we need motivating inspiration, well-founded further training opportunities and a lively exchange between all players,” Angus Winchester explains the particular challenges he has faced as a result of the effects of the corona pandemic. For example, the arranger of the “Berlin” Education Program 2020 relies on a trenchant selection of topics and an industry-representative diversity of top-class speakers, which really should pick up every BCB Pouring Digital participant. “As a source of inspiration this year, I have not only been able to attract the smartest characters on our scene. Up-and-coming personalities and credible role models are also intended to give the community the push it needs. The web sessions that Bar Convent Berlin is contributing to the overall education program of Global Bar Week are not just about heavy corona stuff, as in “Making yourself Pandemic Proof, the Keys to the Side Hustle” or “The Great Pivot”. The tableau will also feature sustainability and craft topics (for example in “Positively charged Sustainability”) as well as best cases and focus lectures on trend spirits (for example in “Baiju Cocktails: The Future of Chinese Spirits”) or market assessments (for example in “The Modern African Bar Scene – Drinking Africa”). The program is rounded off by contributions on inclusion, the role of African-American mixologists in the early American cocktail history or the needs and importance of the LGBTQIA community for the scene.

The BCB traditionally also focuses on beer and coffee. The BCB will set up the latter together with the Berliner Kaffeerösterei / Berlin School of Coffee as an education partner. Among other things, the focus will be on how to integrate coffee into a bar offering and the most important basics about coffee will be taught.

Tastings also play a major role in this year’s digital BCB. The Wine & Spirit Education Trust WSET offers online tastings on the topics of “Smoke & Strong Water”, “Who put this banana in my bottle?”, “Sweet Vs Dry – Words Matter”, “Subjective Objectivity” and “Herbs and Spice and all things nice”.

Another partner of the BCB is Park Street University, which offers lectures for trade fair visitors who want to expand their business or their own skills. This year’s topics include direct sales to end consumers, how brands can engage in social justice and the ever-changing role of third party marketing companies and how brands use them.

The lecture program as well as information on the top speakers is available online at https://www.barconvent.com/de/Bar-Convent-Berlin/PROGRAMM/712/

Participants can register for Global Bar Week via the online ticket stores of the four trade shows BCB Berlin, BCB Brooklyn, BCB Sao Paulo and Imbibe Live. All education sessions will be available on the digital event platform from October 12 to 18. The participation is free of charge.
