“Dining is about creating memories,” says Orion Trading’s Jim de Girolamo. And when you hear of how Orion and de Girolamo view the creative process for Orion’s unique product line, it’s easy to understand how Orion Trading’s products play into that concept.

Orion Trading and de Girolamo start the creative process by listening to chefs to understand what the chef is looking for. Those thoughts and ideas are then translated into a solution from one of Orion’s many artisan craftspeople. These handcrafted products, embodied with the chefs ideas and the artisan’s touch, then becomes “alive” with both creative spirit and practicality, according to de Girolamo. From this, the process continues with the chef or restaurant developing an entire tabletop with these products, much like a set director on a movie would set a stage in preparation for a production. The dining guest then becomes the main actor on the stage who is then served and enjoys their meal….but, more importantly, creates a long-lasting memory. It’s that memory of a thoroughly enjoyed meal – a  memorable dining experience – that keeps the customer coming back, again and again.

And, within that dining memory, the tabletop has played a sometimes subtle, but crucial role. With that type of approach to product development, it’s no wonder Orion Trading and its unique collection of tabletop products, including a new line of stoneware dinnerware, has such a growing list of fans among the chef community.

Orion Trading’s new stoneware comes in (counter clockwise form left) Goldenrod, Oyster, Temmoku, Olive, and Ice Blue. “Authenticity is so important to the creative process,” says Orion Trading’s de Girolamo. That’s why Orion’s new stoneware line of restaurant dinnerware is produced near Guadalajara, Mexico, where stoneware has been a way of life going back to the days when the early Spanish explorers introduced European methods of producing ceramics to that part of Mexico. In fact, Mexico’s Museo Nacional de la Cerámica is located in Tonalá, just outside of Guadalajara testifying to the authenticity and heritage of the region.

Orion Trading creates its diverse line of products for all the talented chefs, foodservice professionals, and daring culinary artists, who treat us to new heights of food art, hospitality and civilized dining. “Their creativity is remains the company’s inspiration,” says de Girolamo.

Since 1987, Orion’s goal has remained to design and source unique, quality handmade tabletop products that complement a chef’s culinary creations, enhance rustic special dining environments, and elevate overall the guest dining experience.

To complete the memory making, Orion has a complete line of handmade, lead-free, Mexican recycled glassware. As every glass is individually blown and shaped, there are slight variations in size and colors, which is normal. The process also creates occasional small trapped bubbles. In short — no two glasses are exactly alike — which of course is part of the beauty, charm, and personality of Orion glass and all the other Orion Trading’s products, as well.
