Norwegian porcelain producer Figgjo has been awarded the Red Dot Design Award for their UNDRING plate, designed by Lars Tornøe. The plate with the striking hole was designed to mark the porcelain factory’s 75th anniversary. The design can bring to mind an artist’s paint palette, and invites the creative chef to create his own “artwork”.

“There is something captivating, almost surreal, about Figgjo Undring. The hole rises seamlessly out of the plate and the soft transitions are repeated in the bowls that go with it, which rise up as if a continuation of the edge of the hole and create a sculptural expression. The circular shapes, one large and one small, give the plate an almost iconic character. It creates an event both for the person serving dinner and for those who will eat”, says Figgjos product manager Erik Lorange Lindberg.

The Red Dot Award strengthens Figgjo’s position as a leading trendsetter and our ability to bring new and challenging products onto the market,” says Anne Kristine Rugland, CEO of Figgjo.

The product and furniture designer Lars Tornøe from Stavanger has won many design awards since he graduated from Bergen Academy of Arts and Design in 2006. He is well known for the hooks called The Dots for Muuto. “This is not only my first product for Figgjo, but is also the first time I have worked with porcelain. That makes it even more special to receive this recognition,” says Tornøe.
