The Aug/Sept issue of Australia’s Vogue Living magazine does a nice story on how London-based designer Marc Newsom designed the on-board Noritake bone china for national airline Qantas. Designed orignally for the first class cabin, it was expanded to Qantas’ lounges due to its popularity. It quickly became a “souvenir” being pocketed by sticky fingered travelers.

“Qantas totally embraces design as a way of differentiating themselves,” Newsom tells the magazine. The dinnerware has proved popular enough that Qantas/Noritake have made it available – along with a Qantas First Class lounge furniture collection, also designed by Newsom – at Australian retailer Living Edge. Customer demand gave Qantas the idea to offer the collections and drove the decision. Newsom’s Noritake dinnerare will be available department stores and specialty retailers and can be purchased online through Qantas Shoppping site.
