We recently received a sample of a new wine glass. Occasionally, people send samples and we always try our best to recognize the company that goes to that trouble…whether it’s a product sample or a copy of their newest catalog.

Well, this particular wine glass sample was simply not your ordinary new foodservice wine glass.

This new shape — I Meravigliosi from Luigi Bormioli – is so simple and so perfect, with its traditional-shaped aromatic chamber and a flat base bowl. I Meravigliosi is made with a new production technology that reproduces artisanal techniques. These two important parameters paved the way for the realization of these wine glasses.

“The wine ‘sits’ in the bowl of I Meravigliosi very uniquely,” states Jeffrey Heaney, President at BauscherHepp, Inc. the exclusive hospitality source for Luigi Bormioli in America.

Heaney continued, “The bowl shape keeps the wine from being so vertically pushed up, so that not only does it look great, it helps with aeration, as well.”

The I Meravigliosi wine glass is super-light and very well-balanced when tasting, while at the same time being durable enough to withstand the rigors of a restaurant’s back of the house operations and a commercial dishwasher.

And, the very thin stem that provides such an important part of the wine drinker’s tactile experience is reinforced with Titanium, to provide maximum strength while still feeling thin and delicate to the touch.

And what does all this talk of titanium reinforcement mean?

This is a process that provides a permanent anti-abrasion treatment to the glass’s stem. Developed by the Luigi Bormioli’s R&D department, titanium reinforcement utilizes nanotechnologies directly on the glass. It thereby permanently increases the stem’s resistance to breakage by 140%. Being the first in the world, holding patent number EP20100153150, ….and, according to Luigi Bormioli, there is simply no equal in the marketplace. It additionally helps maintain sparkle and transparency, along with preventing wear and discoloration from washing cycles.

Very sexy. And very strong. That’s I Meravigliosi from Luigi Bormioli.

Partnering in the U.S. for the hospitality sector with BauscherHepp, Inc., – who were kind enough to send the sample for us to see, first hand – the Bormioli family has been dedicated to the art of glass-making for 25 generations.

The company was founded by Mr. Luigi Bormioli in Parma, Italy, in 1946. Luigi Bormioli was the first glass manufacturer to replicate handmade glassware using a machine-blown process.

If you’d like to put more smiles on the faces of your wine drinking guests, you’d be wise to consider the newest collection –  I Meravigliosi – of wine glasses from Luigi Bormioli and available from BauscherHepp, Inc.
