The Court of Master Sommeliers Europe conducted its first India Chapter’s Introductory and Certified Sommelier certification course in association with Berkmann Wine Cellars India, in association with Lucaris – The Crystal of Modern Asia on March 7-9, 2018 at Taj Lands End, Mumbai.
“The first Court of Master Sommeliers course conducted in India was a true success with 19 out of 36 candidates passing the Introductory exam and five candidates passing the Certified Sommelier exam. This would not have happened without the support of our partners, Lucaris – The Crystal of Modern Asia and Taj Lands End,” said Viraj R Sawant, Brand Ambassador and Sommelier, Berkmann Wine Cellars India.
On the last day of the course, Magandeep Singh, first French-qualified Sommelier in India, and an award-winning writer and TV show host conducted a masterclass for the students.
“I have always believed that wine is not just a tactile experience, it covers all the senses. From sight to smell, taste to texture, it is multi-sensory. It’s also a civil pleasure, a refined indulgence, hedonism at its highest. A good glass then plays a crucial role in getting us there. I enjoy what Lucaris brings to the table and I am happy to be able to help them spread the message that good wine can taste great in the right glass,” said Singh while talking about the chemistry between drinking wines from different types of glasses.
The award ceremony took place following the masterclass.
The five candidates who passed the Certified Sommelier exam were Shrinjoy Ghosh, Lalit Rane, Harnil Mathur, Joyson Jose, and Reethesh Mohanan.
