In a move that can only be described as making a great deal of sense, the announcement was made today that HLC Dinnerware/Homer Laughlin will change the backstamp of its Kenilworth line to that of the original producer, RAK Porcelain. TabletopJournal has written of the RAK brand and just recently we profiled its new design NABUR, designed by Mikaela Dorfel. Here is the release from the folks at Homer Laughlin:

The Homer Laughlin China Company® (HLC Inc.) announces that, effective immediately, its Kenilworth® brand of fine dining porcelain will be changing its backstamp to RAK Porcelain. There will be no changes to the product itself, and the popular dinnerware will still offer the same exciting contemporary designs and trends, the same high quality, and the same meticulous attention to detail.

The prestigious Kenilworth brand has, in fact, always been manufactured by RAK Porcelain, an internationally known company that is part of the RAK Ceramics Group. When HLC first obtained exclusive rights to distribute the china in the United States, they named it Kenilworth. Since then, RAK Porcelain has globalized its presence and, in order to leverage opportunities for both companies here in the United States, concerted branding was in order. The Homer Laughlin China Company is proud to remain the only china company in America with the rights to offer this fine dinnerware product.

“The partnership between The HLC Inc. family of companies and RAK is a blending of industry leaders. The RAK line, previously known as Kenilworth, is designed by leaders in the industry and, for that, Kenilworth/RAK is an extremely important part of the HLC family of companies. Their patterns are inspirational and please the discriminating tastes and standards of the hotel and hospitality industry and many other fine dining atmospheres,” says Joseph M. Wells III, Homer Laughlin company president and CEO.
