In restaurant’s like Raleigh’s Death & Taxes and Provenance, dinnerware by Haand brings both texture and color to the guest dining experience.

Haand Ceramics is a tabletop and accessories company that we’ve had our sights on for a while and evidently we’re not alone. From Raleigh chefs like Provenance’s Teddy Klopf and Death & Taxes’ Chef Ashley Christiansen to the new boutique Durham Hotel, hospitality operators in the North Carolina region are discovering that buying locally-made tabletop is good business.

According to owners Mark Warren and Chris Spence, Haand Ceramics strives to create comfortable products for everyday use – products that reflect Haand’s respect for historic manufacturing processes and craftsmanship as well as Haand’s interest in contemporary design and production methods. Haand describes its company aesthetic as ‘farmhouse futuristic’ ….simple, highly functional pieces that allow the user to create a narrative.

More and more chefs and hospitality people of all types in the Carolina region are finding out that the hand-crafted look and feel of Haand’s dinnerware not only provides a great aesthetic for their restaurant tabletop, but also meets the rigors of foodservice back-of-the-house operations, as well.

Tableware from Haand Ceramics is designed to create a palette, an arena, a frame for the fleeting, sublime beauty that is a well-composed and plated meal. The founders at Haand believe that “before the first bite, there is a wholly unique moment — where taste only exists conceptually. To look at food, to let your eye combine the flavors. Inhale. A plate is a tool, and when chosen with intention, it becomes an inseparable part of the experience of eating.” The goal at Haand Ceramics is to work with chefs to help curate a collection of tableware that compliments that particular chef’s restaurant concept and philosophy about dining.

According to Raleigh top chef and James Beard Foundation Award winner, Chef Ashley Christensen, “I am tremendously proud of our collaborative project with HAAND. Their work in pottery achieves one of my greatest goals in cooking… it tells the story of the place we live, but in a format that translates to tabletops in any community. The products that Mark and Chris create are spirited and unique, yet durable and utilitarian. I look forward to continued collaboration and creative discovery with Haand.”  At TabletopJournal, we frequently see products that, while beautiful to look at or serve in…simply are not made for restaurant use. To prove their products, Haand Ceramics recently introduced a Lifetime Guarantee for the hospitality line.

Another tabletop area that Haand Ceramics likes to develop products for is the Center of The Table. In addition to their lines of more traditional tableware items, Haand has created an entire series titled that to tie together and complete the shared dining experience — platters, shared plates, carafes, teapots,  bud vases – all are included. With a tablescape-type approach where each piece tells a unique story, these beautiful – and functional – pieces from Haand Ceramics transform each meal into a memorable dining experience for your restaurant guests.
