Sandy Chilewich and her original textiles have been enhancing hotel and restaurant interiors around the world since 2000. Her textiles at first glance are simply beautiful, but Sandy’s passion is making beauty functional. Each year from her NYC studio she creates a new collection that reflects her distinctive aesthetic and unique vision. Hotels and restaurants around the world that have selected Chilewich to dress their tables include the Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Resorts, Hyatt Hotels, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, One & Only Resorts, Trump Hotels, and more. Renowned celebrity chef clients include Joël Robuchon, Jean Georges, Tom Colicchio and Wolfgang Puck. During the last 12 years Chilewich has designed innovated textiles for numerous menu concepts and a wide variety of hospitality applications.

With the launch of their 2015 line, Chilewich is looking to follow up a year that included Ambiente, the largest home consumer tradeshow in the world, awarding Chilewich’s Spring|Summer 2014 “Ribbon” design its highly prestigious Design Plus Award. Her new collection features the designs, “Glassweave”, “Scribble”, “Pebble”, and “Gold with Silver”.

While some designs will allow themselves to become embedded into your tabletops, Chilewich’s creations beg you to think of ways to make your tabletop more impressive. Her Glassweave design is a striking mix of silver and gold yarns that are each encased in a clear covering. This allows the metallic colors to reflect like glass. While this may be a very bright and exciting design, if you’re looking for something more subtle, try her Scribble pattern. Sandy describe it as, “An original take on lace minus the dainty that is both durable and sophisticated.”

For the more extravagant restaurateur or interior designer, her Pebble and Gold with Silver constructions are stunning and can really boost your tabletop appeal. The Pebble styling is a thoughtfully considered juxtaposition of the naturalness of actual pebbles, but drawn with a modern hand. The Gold with Silver pattern is extremely striking, and is achieved by combining a matte white yarn with varying shades of gold and silver. With this method, Chilewich creates a textile that while metallic, appear sundrenched and bleached.

In addition to all the exciting forms that Chilewich creates from collection to collection, what makes them even more impressive is how innovative and green they are. Her woven pieces incorporate Terrastrand and woven vinyls use Microban technology. Microban technology is used to inhibit the growth of stain and odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew. This protection works continuously for the lifetime of the product. Terrastrand is a process that helps to eliminate the use of petroleum by integrating a vegetable compound into their yarns for the plasticizers. This cuts down on both petroleum and CO2 emissions while maintaining a strong and stable formula that is eco-friendly. This technology will be used in 90% of their wovens by the end of this year.

As Sandy puts it, “Making something simply beautiful is easy…Making something beautiful as well as practical is my passion.” As her work spans over multiple continents, used by world renowned chefs, and featured in top hotel chains, there’s no surprise to see her passions are respected in our industry. With all Chilewich has accomplished since 2000, Sandy and her company’s products are a simple, beautiful, and practical reason that #TabletopMatters
