For a while now, I have been watching with interest the growing trend of “traditional” tabletop companies expanding into the buffet area. Probably a natural area for expansion, buffet and buffet accessories seem to offer an outlet for creativity and provide tools for using more of the tabletop items. Not sure if this trend is driven by the tabletop manufacturers or the dining trend to more buffet-type affairs.

The picture above shows just a very small sampling of tabletop companies moving in the buffet direction:
1. Oneida – with its new Strata Buffet systems, it’s commitment to buffet is unquestionable;
2. Churchill – moving in with its new wood risers and containers, Churchill also has added melamine serving pieces that look exactly like ceramic….well done.
3. Turgla – risers for its colorful glass plates and 360 degree serving units offer creative tools for using their already fun products in new ways.
4. Kenilworth – their b.Concept buffet shapes are incredible, not only for their unique shapes but their high quality and ability to conture to nearly any shape a buffet chef desires.
5. Front of The House – their Fun and Functional is just one of several buffet accesories lines that they have to help use their already creative porcelain and glass pieces; great stuff.
6. Izabel Lam – metal risers and more provide elevation and flexibility to utilize this company’s fantastically creative products taking them them to new levels of aesthetics and function.
7. Steelite – with both classic plate stands and very contemporary buffet items such as their Brand Design Source Canyons and Terraces collection, Steelite has something for every buffet concept.

And this is just a small sampling of some of the fun buffet items coming from traditional tabletop suppliers. I look for people like Bon Chef, Spring USA, and Bugambilia who have been traditional buffet products suppliers to respond in kind. All of this can only make buffets even more appealing as we go forward.
