Picked this up recently at an airport bookstore……
9 things successful people do differently.

Check out #5Focus on Getting Better Rather Than Being Good.

In these columns we often talk about building brands and the fact that brand building is a long journey and often it can be frustrating if your expectations are for “too much, too soon”. So, by simply working on getting closer to being the brand you want to be….and understanding that, like life, building a brand is a journey rather than a destination, you can remain motivated towards your end goal of brand success. However, as in life, there will be mis-steps. Heidi Grant Halvorson has written a book about success in life, but the parallels to building a successful brand are plenty.

So, instead of having “be good” brand goals, how about trying “get better” brand goals, instead? From our way of thinking….the journey gets a whole lot more enjoyable – a less overwhelming – when you allow yourself the ability to screw up once in a while.

Author Halvorson has written a quick-read and a great reminder to us all that small changes to the way we view everyday events, the resulting actions we take, and having persistence are often much better determiners of future success than innate talent, DNA, or simply being lucky.
