The prestigious tabletop company Villeroy & Boch has been sponsoring the Bocuse d’Or culinary competition for many years. The Bocuse d’Or competition brings together top chefs from all around the globe every two years for a final, global competition in Lyon, France. So, TabletopJournal was excited to recently be able to ask Nicolas Luc Villeroy a few quick questions related to the Bocuse d’Or and Villeroy & Boch’s sponsorship.

Nicolas Luc Villeroy, born in 1961, has been the CEO of the Tableware Division at Villeroy & Boch AG since 2005 and was appointed to the Management Board in May 2012.

TabletopJournal: Why it’s important for Villeroy & Boch to be part of Bocuse d’Or?

Nicolas Luc Villeroy: By this long-term partnership we support one of the most famous culinary competition in the world because at the Bocuse d’Or the best of today meet the best of tomorrow and bring new trends in culinary art to the attention of the world. With our high-quality tableware we would like to contribute towards the perfect performance of their culinary excellence.

This cooperation is true to the motto “Quality meets Quality” with the two premium brands perfectly complementing one another.

TJ: Which one of Villeroy & Boch tableware collections is part of Bocuse d’Or?

NLV: For many years Villeroy & Boch has provided the official competition tableware, which this year comes from the new Artesano Professionale collection. The impressively designed, round plates offer chefs plenty of space to present their creations with sophistication, thanks to their size and simple, yet surprising design. Flatware from the Villeroy & Boch series Oscar and glasses from the series Purismo complete the table setting.

In addition to the current competition plate Villeroy & Boch will again produce a Bocuse d’Or collector’s plate in limited edition, which all the finalists and the guests of the gala dinner will receive on the night of the finale. The special décor comes, as is tradition, from the hand of French artist and designer Alain Vavro. Since 1995 he has designed the décor for the collector’s plate, which is always personally approved by Paul Bocuse.

TJ: Mr Villeroy, did you ever attended a Bocuse d’Or finale?

NLV: Yes, I indeed did. And I was amazed by the performance and impressions I gained every time. Usually I try to attend every two years the big finale in Lyon, the home city of Paul Bocuse and also the unofficial capital of gastronomy. The finale of this year’s competition will take place on January 24th and 25th, 2017.

The Bocuse d’Or is the most well-known competition in top international gastronomy. Every two years the best chefs in the world meet in Lyon, the home of the eponymous and initiator, Paul Bocuse, to test their culinary skills. The big finale will take place on January 24th and 25th 2017. The finalists must first get through national and regional qualifying rounds, for example in the European Final, which takes place on May 10th and 11th in Budapest. The national qualifying rounds have already taken place in some countries, and others are approaching in the coming months.

Once again in the 2016/2017 competition Villeroy & Boch is an active partner and is providing the official competition plate, which this time comes from the new Artesano Professionale collection. The impressively designed plate offers the chefs plenty of space for the sophisticated presentation of their creations thanks to the size and simple, but surprising design. The flatware from the Villeroy & Boch series Oscar and glasses from the Purismo series complete the table setting.
In addition to the current competition plate Villeroy & Boch will again produce a Bo-cuse d’Or collector’s plate in limited edition, which all the finalists and the guests of the gala dinner will receive on the night of the finale. The special décor comes, as is tradi-tion, from the hand of French artist and designer Alain Vavro. Since 1995 he has de-signed the décor for the collector’s plate, which is always personally approved by Paul Bocuse.

The Villeroy & Boch Hotel & Restaurant Division has been closely connected to the world-renowned cooking competition for many years. Villeroy & Boch is a Membre associé du Bocuse d’Or and has been producing the popular Bocuse d’Or event plates for many years
