2016 has been an unstoppable year for industry leaders. However, when that happens its usually the little guys that fall the most susceptible to being overshadowed. So, in an effort to celebrate the entire world of tabletop, not just big players we’re starting a new series called #TabletopRadar! It’s a way for us to find the newest, most innovative products being developed for the hospitality industry and bring it right to the forefront.

Of course with the first #TabletopRadar we had to bring you something really special. So with that being said, cue the slow clap.

Because we’ve all done it. Carrying a tray full of glassware, only to bump into an unsuspecting guest, steps away from the kitchen. Now, despite what accounting may tell you, there’s nothing wrong with dinnerware breaking here and there. It happens, however, that doesn’t make broken serve ware in the front of the house any less of a hassle.

This is at the core of what makes SinStella special.

Designed and patented by Vera Pure, SinStella’s core functionality is a cube of sorts, carved out of some beautifully polished k9(BK7) glass, called the Base” with a cone shaped recessed input on top that makes it modular. This then eliminates the need for a normal foot/base on things such as champagne glasses or even small plates, instead they simply don a cone shaped extremity (they call it an Input”) at the bottom that fits into the Base. So when you want to set your champagne flute down, you place it in the Base. Simple enough, right?

The idea here is that when you’re transporting a tray full of drinks or appetizers, you simply use one of SinStella’s trays that come with holes made to snuggly fit any Input and you’re good to go. If you bump into someone, within reason, those drinks aren’t going to fall everywhere.

Of course the Base and Input combo make for an interesting tabletop statement and combination that’ll get any guest talking. Vera Pure claims that light passing through their Base is slightly manipulated creating an every changing aestethic to your tabletop you might not normally see with glassware.

Prior to their IndieGoGo launch, SinStella existed exclusively at Gabriel Kreutzer’s restaurant in NYC. They’ve currently got 128 backers and have nearly tripled their goal through crowd funding. While the crowd funding campaign aim primarily at the retail side of things we couldn’t help but notice 2 purchases of their Small Gastronomy Set” which includes 50 bases and 60 inputs of your choice. If we had to take a guess, we’d imagine you’ll be seeing more of Vera Pure’s newest product on tabletops very soon.

Is it practical for everyone? Probably not, but Vera Pure, as a whole aims to go after the “rare niche” market so that’s to be expected. We’re curious as to how these work in the back of the house storage and stacking wise, and are curious as to how convenient these are in a busy and chaotic setting.

As of now, the SinStella glass system comes with four input options. The Flutes, the UFO (flat plate like surface with rim), the Shot (small ramekin), and the Enterprise (think bowl). We’d definitely like to see more range and a maybe more dinnerware focused approach to this, but with that being said, Vera Pure and their SinStella line are definitely on our #TabletopRadar. We love the idea and the bravery it takes to defect from the trends of yesterday. We look forward to seeing more! For more on Vera Pure and their IndieGoGo campaign click here!       -H.A.
