RAK Porcelain‘s new SENSATE Dinnerware Collection, designed by Jordanian designer Sahar Madanat (right) provides innovative solutions that enable stroke victims and people with upper-limb disabilities to eat independently.

The new SENSATE Collection of dinnerware, designed by Jordanian designer Sahar Madanat and executed brilliantly by RAK Porcelain, has just been launched and offers operators of all types an innovative solution to enable stroke victims and people with upper-limb disabilities to eat more easily and independently.

We had the opportunity to speak with designer Sahar Madanat via phone from her Amman, Jordan studio Twelve° and here’s what she had to say about her newest design:

SENSATE, a multi-award wining design provides a multi-functional plate partition, which allows the user to cut bites of food in any size, regaining a sense of pride and independence. The plate design gives one-handed users support and accuracy in the cutting their food with a slotted “cradle-like” notch as part of the partition design for the knife blade to rest easily into.

The SENSATE series features a range of sensory elements that guide the user and enhance the dining experience. The collection currently has 12 items all flawlessly executed in terms of quality and aesthetics – 6 plates, 4 bowls and 2 stackable mugs. SENSATE is compatible with the various heat retention systems from manufacturers like Cambro, etc.

Today, most of the focus on improving dining for people with disabilities is on the issues of access and mobility.

Therefore, its great to see a premier quality dinnerware product range like SENSATE that focuses on making the actual act of eating easier, more enjoyable and a more independent activity. All of these elements combining to allow for a more pleasant – and dignified dining experience.
