The green revolution keeps on trucking, this time with one of the largest breweries in the world, MillerCoors. According to an article at Men’s Journal, MillerCoors says that they plan to reduce their water-to-beer ratio to 3:1 by the year 2020. This wouldn’t be MillerCoors’ first step in the direction of more sustainable brewing, as they reported a decrease in almost 15 billion gallons of water used from 2015 to 2016. A near 17 percent decrease in water usage and the equivalent of 500 million kegs.

For those who don’t know, the industry average of gallons of water to gallons of beer is about 8 to 1. So a decrease to 3 to 1, by a company as vast as MillerCoors, is a significant amount of water not being used. According to Cat Wolinski at Men’s Journal, “…requiring changes at every stage of the beer-making process, from farming techniques to brewing efficiencies.”

“When it comes to water savings at our breweries and across our agricultural system, 2016 was a banner year at MillerCoors. We’re proud of the water efficiencies achieved at our breweries by our passionate and innovative employees, and we are proud of our long-standing partnerships with our growers. These partnerships span multiple generations and are a driving force behind using less water in 2016. While this was a unique year, we are committed to developing innovative ways to use less water across our system for years to come.” said Director of Community Affairs at MillerCoors Karina Diehl.

With such a heavy focus on the environment these days, as mentioned in previous articles, its once again imperative to focus on the green. While a process like this may not be as extreme as what your location needs, saving water is critical to expenses, environment, and marketing.

Finding a way to use less water (such as using mist spraying faucets) is a great way to save on water, and let your customers know just how up-to-date your location really is.
